"The
Nativity" begins with a bit of Dan's award-winning Gospel Magic
(when time permits) and calls upon his "Little Old Man" character to
help set the mood for the program. He continues the fun by
launching into a little stand-up comedy and integrating his character
transformation into the humor. As the story is to be
presented in Red-Skelton-type pantomime, Dan's character of choice for this
concert is his beloved silent Tramp, "The Amazing Earl."
Dan
then begins to tell the story as only he can...without saying a word. He
begins by portraying the Virgin Mary when she is visited by the angel and told
that she is with child.
Next,
Joseph appears and following an inspired dream, makes his decision to marry his
betrothed in spite of her condition.
They
make their way to Bethlehem and finding that the local "Dazed Inn" has
no room, the Child is born in a lowly stable...using the LaMaze method...
A
local shepherd hears of the event through the celestial grapevine and comes to
pay his respects. His "flock" tags along...a single sheep who
flatly refuses to take orders.
Portraying
all of the Wise Men at once (a stretch for ANY actor) they are depicted bringing
their gifts of Gold, Frankincense...and whatever MYRRH is.
Finally,
when all the characters have come and gone, "Earl" visits the manger
himself. Finding he has no gift for the Baby, he blows up a balloon,
re-shapes it and offers the only gift he can...his heart.
As you can see, "The Nativity" is designed to not only make your audience laugh, but inspire them to think as well. It's a holiday gift that ALL AGES will understand, appreciate and keep with them forever.
