Although outreach and evangelism is the main thrust of his Ministry, Dan very often finds himself "preaching to the choir." Once you're saved and understand it completely, the Gospel is really nothing new. After a few years of salvation, many Christians tend to (although we hate to say it) tire of hearing the same message over and over again. You pound the pulpit and tell people that they need to be saved and they're thinking..."We already are. When's this thing over?"
Dan decided to take a look at the Gospel of Christ from a different perspective. Putting his Tramp Mime into the position of one who needs salvation and having him attempt to figure it out was just the thing. Thus, "How Do You Get to Heaven?" was born.
Ordinarily, this program is used as a closer for Dan's "Comedy Crusade for Christ." But on it's own, it has also become a favorite for revivals, rallies and assemblies at Christian schools. "How Do You Get to Heaven?" has been presented everywhere from cathedral sanctuaries to public parks. It's appeal to all ages and non-preachy way of presenting the Gospel message have made it a year-round favorite.

The magic segment at the beginning of this uplifting concert finds Dan in his favorite situation...doing comedy with an audience volunteer. In this case he begins with a truly astounding card trick (using GIANT cards) which he uses as an object lesson for illustrating his own personal testimony.
Testimony gives way to transformation...the process of Dan changing himself into one of his many comic characters. In "How Do You Get to Heaven?" it's his Tramp Mime, "The Amazing Earl" that gets the spotlight.

Once
the metamorphosis is complete, "Earl" begins trying to figure out the
question posed in the program's title. First he must figure out where
Heaven is...then figure out how to get himself from here to there.
He
tries many methods; a ladder, feathers...even a rocket! The results of
that last one, as you can see at the right, are pretty disastrous.
Eventually, our hero finds a Gospel "track" with
the reference John 14:6 written on it. He looks it up, understands what he
must do and kneels in prayer...

...visibly asking Jesus Christ into his heart.
After
a bit of by-play, Earl dies. (TASTEFULLY done of course -- There may be
KIDS in the audience!) He now finds himself in Heaven and facing
the
judgment. Opening the record of his life we see SIN written
there. NOW what can he do?
Suddenly, the Christ figure he placed into his heart earlier emerges to wipe those sins away!
Thus
Earl learns the real reason for becoming a Christian; Forgiveness, Unconditional
Love and the promise of Eternal Life.
Dan then steps out of character for a quick recap of the
message, outlining the Gospel and using the previous story to really bring the
point home. Because the message itself is presented completely in
pantomime, it reaches everyone in the audience at their own level. This is
a presentation that kids, teens, adults and seniors alike will enjoy...and
remember...for a lifetime.
In the words of St Francis of Assisi, "Preach the Gospel all the time. If necessary, use words."
