PROMOTION Promotion is very important when it comes to a succesful Crusade. It could make or break the whole thing! Get the word out in any way you can, letting as many people know about your Event as possible. Make it sound exciting. If YOU get excited about it, OTHERS will too! The more folks you get to help spread the word and put up/send out flyers, the more will find out about the Event and attend. Historically, the Comedy Crusade has a tendency to grow in attendance though the course of the week. This is a result of "word-of-mouth" advertising. This makes it even MORE important to have as many as possible there on the first night of the Event. Here are a few helpful hints on Promotion: 1. Start promoting and talking about the Event WELL IN ADVANCE...that way folks can make plans to attend. However, don’t start the promotion TOO early...people will get tired of hearing about the event and even FORGET about it. (It DOES happen!) 2. Start out by getting your own Church excited about the Event. 3. Advertise the Event in your local newspapers, send Public Service Announcements to Radio and Television Stations at least two weeks in advance. Radio and TV Stations have a certain amount of air-time that they MUST give to Non-Profit Organizations by law...but they can't mention YOUR Event if they don't KNOW about it! A sample News Release is included on this disc. 4. Copy off Flyers advertising the Event that can be handed out to your Church so they can pass them out to their friends and neighbors. Reproducible, customizable flyers are included on this disc. Photocopy as many as you need. 5. You MAY want to recruit people to go out into the neighborhoods around your area to pass out the flyers. This can be done in the evening or on Saturdays. Be sure to go to areas of your town that have lots of kids and families with children. Distribute flyers to every house. This should be done ten to fourteen days before the start of the Event. 6. Don't forget to pass out flyers in places that KIDS hang out; Parks, Pools, Ice Cream places, etc. 7. Be sure to MAIL some flyers to other CHURCHES in your area to invite THEM! 8. When posting flyers, be sure to ask the permission of the Owner of the establishment! Put them in Grocery Stores, Laundromats, Libraries, Bookstores, Restraunts, Shopping Malls, etc. 9. Make your posters eye-catching. Use brightly colored paper. You want YOUR flyer to STAND OUT from all the others that are hanging around. 10. If you make up your own posters using the clip-art on the CD-ROM, be sure that they contain the following information: The name of the Evangelist Special Talents of the Evangelist Announce if there will be Prizes or Treats Include the Church Name, Address and Telephone Number Mention if a ride can be provided LET THEM KNOW THAT IT'S FREE! REGISTRATION 1. Register EVERYONE attending. Get their name, address, phone number and age. You may also want to know if they attend Church regularly and where. 2. Register all VISITORS attending...regardless of age. After the first night, be sure to ask each Visitor if they were invited by someone who’s already attended the Crusade and who it was. This information will be necessary for the Visitor Contest in the second half of the program. 3. Register the attendees BEFORE each nightly Session starts. Don't allow them to go in until they have registered. 4. Tables should be set up in an entryway so they are plainly seen and folks know that they MUST register. 5. The information gathered from Registrations can be handy for follow-up after the Crusade. You may wish to send them a note after the Event ends to thank them for attending and invite them to your Church if they don't already have a Church Home. Invite the whole FAMILY to come. 6. Those attending the Event will need to register only once. They won't need to re-register every night! If you’d like to have a record of attendance, you may want them to “check-in” when they arrive. 7. Be SURE to have the Registrars ready at least half an hour before each nightly Session. Have extra people on hand to help the first night...this will be the heaviest night for registrations. 8. To smooth the process, you may want make and pass out PRE-Registration forms so that they can bring them on the first night already filled out...or mail them to you in advance. HELPERS The main job of the Helpers is to help with discipline and "Crowd Control" during the registration and assembly sessions. A child that is listening and attentive will learn and hear more than one who is talking and fooling around. They may also be very distracting to other attendees. A child who is listening will also enjoy themselves more! It's not worth having a couple of unaccompanied kids disrupt the Session for everyone else. There are five basic rules that need to be enforced: 1. No Talking 2. No Walking (Stay in your seats) 3. No Smarties (No talking back or wise cracks) 4. Obey the Helpers 5. All Dan’s equipment is off limits (NO one is allowed on the platform unless asked to come up) The Helpers will be used to help enforce these rules so that the Program will not have to STOP while the Dan deals with a discipline problem. This can really disrupt the flow of the program and break the mood of what is happening at the time. During Assembly Sessions: 1. Direct all the kids and visitors to the Registration Tables as they enter. 2. Instruct the kids to use the restroom and get a drink BEFORE entering the Sanctuary. 3. Show them where to sit. If you have them divided by age or classes, direct them to their areas. An even more effective solution is to encourage families to sit together...then the parents can police their own kids. 4. Show any Adults with babes-in-arms where the nursery is. 5. During Assemblies, Adults are to be seated AMONG the kids. This helps with discipline. 6. Be available to help counsel and pray with kids who make a decision if necessary after the final Program. 7. Be ready to lend a hand wherever help is needed 8. Let the kids see the love of Jesus in you! During the Break/Snack Time: After the Opening Assembly each day, the audience will be dismissed for Snack Time. If you’re dividing the children into age groups, they should be overseen by their assigned Helpers. Snack Time is pretty self explanatory...you just basically get out of the way and let the kids eat! Make sure the kids know where the Bathroom is so they can wash their hands before eating and use the toilet if necessary. The Break will be about 15-20 minutes. The only thing really needed from the Helpers in this Period is to answer any questions the kids may have about the message of the day which will be laid out in the Opening Assembly. The Helpers will also need to coach the kids on a memory verse for the Memory Verse Contest later on. The nightly Memory Verses are as follows: (NOTE: These are subject to change!) Day One: GENESIS 9:13 "I put my Rainbow in the clouds as a permanent promise to you." Day Two: JOHN 3:16 “For God so loved the World that he gave His only begotten Son, but whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Day Three: ROMANS 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Day Four: JOHN 8:44 “Satan is a Liar and the Father of Lies.” Day Five: JOHN 14:6 “Jesus said, 'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life...No one comes to the Father but by me.” There is a bit of an edge given to the younger attendees in the Memory Verse Contest. Children up through First Grade need only know the Scripture Index in order to win, “JOHN 3:16” for example. Through Third Grade they need to know the Index and only the portion of the verse underlined here. From Fourth Grade upward, they must know both the Index and the entire verse. This levels the playing field a bit and allows the younger ones to have just as good a shot at winning as the older kids have. On the accompanying CD-ROM disc, you will find a sample news Release about Comedy Crusade for Christ and an 8 1/2 x 11" flyer announcing the event. Simply insert your own information where necessary and correct any discrepancies with the actual event info. Then you just print them out and photocopy as many as you need. I hope that you will find the information in this Packet to be useful. If you have additional needs or have questions, feel free to contact us at the address and phone number listed below. More promotional materials may be found at the website. One additional responsibility for EVERYONE involved in the Event; PRAY ABOUT IT! We're taking on a HUGE responsibility in nurturing God's people and leading them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Pray for HIS leading and we can't LOSE! Yours in Christ, Dan Wolfe D.
